I absolutely loved your comments, Inkwell. Your experience is exactly why I am fascinated by Nick Bantock's books... and likewise intrigued by the people that are drawn to them. I had a similar experience as you, though not so steeped in the romantic aspect. I did however have a couple of penpals - one of which would adoringly decorate each and every envelope. It took about a month for a letter to arrive, and those days were cherished. The wait was nothing compared to finding that treasure in my mailbox... and then being able to save it and reread it whenever I wanted.
