I coat the surface area in a thin watery layer of matt medium. Then put a small quantity of powder into a jar lid. Angle the lid and tap it over the the region required. With practice you'll figure how high above the surface the lid needs to be for the specific effect you want. Another method is to distribute the powder dry then fix (with fixative). Blow off excess (outside with your eyes closed), then coat in matt medium. It's not as predictable but it is less likely to deteriorate in a nice Christmas decoration! Nick
