Dear Mr. Bantock: Unbeknownst to you, an event is happening 12/4 to 12/14 in the San Francisco Design center called "Home for the Holidays" - the idea is to do table settings by designers for celebrities, and then the general public comes in & sees them; the entrance fees go to charity. Mine , in Dunkirk showroom, is entitled "In Which Griffin & Sabine meet Matthew & Isabella in Alexandria". The idea came about because of the products we sell, namely 50 million year old fossils in limestone made into pieces of elegant furniture, and a cast concrete fireplace surround called the "Royal Fez" - it got me to thinking of all the characters and Matthew's archaeological site, and I am using "Black Shoulders" china and numerous Elsa Peretti pieces, lent by Tiffany & Co., lighting with glass blown from exotic places, lush carpets (on loan from Alexander's Rugs - his logo is a Griffin, and one of the carpets we're using has six Griffins in circles - it's amazing how the coincidences have coincided!), and sumotuous silk and velvet pillows around the "tea' table, with maps, arhaeology tools, etc. One of the reasons I am writing to you is to get your okay to scan a couple maps (my oldest son is a cartographer) to have on the work table, folded, crumpled, etc. for some authenticity. I did some research on the Pharos gate, and it was with a great sense of amusement that I read it was destroyed by earthquake in the 14th century, but that the stones from it form a lintel to pass through in the Qaitbay fort...I've just reread all the five books and the part in Artful Dodger, and realized something about the handwriting. Griffin's has become like Sabine's - and they are both using Gryphon cards, Frolatti's handwriting is disturbingly like Isabella's. The consistentcy of the alchemy, golden mean, Alexandria library, the gods who are both east and west, the melding of the couples, etc........... Other notes: check out the book by Francine Prose on the "Lives of the Muses" - about 9 women and the artists they inspired, as well as the movie "Puckoon" - your kind of humor!
