I love Italian, love singing it, hearing it, etc., and so agree with Nancy's linguistic point. However, the books were written in English (full of loveliness and sublety of its own, I might add) and have a definite rhythm and vocabulary, a distinct character voice, for each character. You being a writer with a good eye for character, you clearly created those voices intentionally and, I might add, well. They can probably be translated successfully into a variety of languages - Russian would be interesting and expressive - but as a composer (and burgeoning amateur linguist), my suggestion is to do it in English.
