I really hope one day to go to one of these, but could not arrange to this time. I went to see the art show as consolation and was delighted to find Nick there to sign my copy of Urgent 2nd Class. Thanks again! The show was amazing. I especially enjoyed seeing the three dimensional pieces like the penguin lighthouse and the Shadowlands cabinet. I've never been to Esalen, but Al had some advice for those going in a previous post. Try to get to Pfeiffer Beach, as well. Stop at Pfeiffer State park and ask directions as the entrance to the beach is not well marked and looks more like a private driveway. It's worth going back and forth a couple times to find it. If you have time, head north to the Monterey Bay Aquarium for the jellyfish and squids and nautilus, especially if you're there with kids. Weekday mornings are probably less crowded. You can have lunch at the Old Monterey Cafe downtown, or the Fishwife in Pacific Grove, or pack a picnic and go to one of the beaches or a rocky coast for tidepooling. It's a wonderful area, I wish I could be there.
