I'm sorry to read about your accident and happy that you're regaining mobility. Days ago at the zoo I saw a pink cane with a flamingo's head that seemed a little impractical but made me smile. The handle must remain comfortably plain but the rest should be open to adornment. I'd go with kids' temporary tattoos rather than paper in case you have some rain or mist. A light sanding will help paint adhere and a clear protective coating for the artwork is a good idea. Antique stores sometimes have interesting canes, too, though the size and sturdiness would have to be considered. I hope you make rapid progress in your recovery and are out on the beaches again soon.
