I was in an accident the beginning of this summer that landed me in a wheelchair and I have finally graduated from a using a walker to go afew feet to a cane. An artist gave me one and said, "you're welcome to decorate it any way you want." She read my mind. I thought about sanding it down and taping off sections and staining it with different designs, then I thought about collaging it because that would be more what I would like (if one can actually say they "like" their cane) It is light wood, I have no idea what kind - looks like a honey-stained pine, but I am not wood-savvy, so who knows. If it came to me a dark, rich mahagony, I might have just left it alone, but I fully intend to embellish it in a way that would make me happy (okay, not happy - but not disgusted) to reach for it because I could consider it an artful companion instead of the drab, yet neccessary crutch that it is. If I didn't need to rely on it, I would be happy to mail it off in a round robin so everyone could add their personal touches! Any ideas would be welcome ... thanks
