We're a noodle friendly household, shape not so important. (I guess we should think about the South Beach this summer.) Capers are the preserved flower buds of a Mediterranean shrub. The best are dried, but I always get the ones in jars. They're a little like lemons and gin. I'm an amature, really, but my version of the sauce is: warm pan, add olive oil, mash anchovies and crushed garlic, add pepper flakes and italian seasoning (thyme, oregano, basil, fresh if you've got them) tomatoes or tomato sauce, a little sugar, then after it looks like it's coming together add good olives and capers and let them warm for a minute or two. Should be made, like all the best food, in an atmosphere of affection and generosity. Thanks for the baby planet, cute pictures!
