Hello everyone, I am a 16 year old high school student that lives on Vancouver Island. I love art of all kinds and am just getting into poetry and philosophy. My english teacher has asked us to write an essay about a favourite Canadian Author, so of course I chose to write about Nick Bantock and the spectacular books he's made. I am glad that I have stumbled across this little chat room, perhaps fellow Nick Bantock enthusiasts can help me out a bit here. I have come up with the thesis Griffin and Sabine has many themes and mythic traditions woven into the body of text and image, most of which are related to the struggle between externalized desire and an internal pursuit of balance. (Bantock, 2000, P. 62) Nick Bantock wants us to free our minds of universalized thoughts, and just focus on ourselves, and the possibilities of whats inside our minds and souls" I am rather content with it, but would benefit from other people's input. I also wouldn't mind if anyone has any ideas for other interesting things to put into it. Does Nick himself actually read these? That would be very cool if he did. I have read as many of his books as I can get my hands on for now, and so far The Artful Dodger has proven highly interesting and a great basis for imagination and inspiration to me. So I just thought I'd stick this on here to see what happens. Thanks for your ideas, even if I don't get to read this again before I hand my essay in I wouldn't mind chatting with others that enjoy those books as much as me. Hope you all have a wondrous evening!
