I visited a friend this weekend who uses collage elements in her paintings. One technique worked like this: A thin layer of acrylic gel medium onto the surface (gesso or paper, but she also had something that worked on raw canvas), the photocopy was placed ink side down onto the gel medium, then the paper was peeled away leaving a reverse of the photocopied image with a little layer of paper which had to be peeled away by rubbing. Very crisp results, nothing very toxic, and quick. Water clean up. I saw it done with black and white photocopy, but I think it also worked with color copies and with computer color printer images. I think it would work over glossy magazine paper but it would make it buckle unless it was mounted on a surface first. She was experimenting with some new products, lazer paper and transparency sheets soaked with water. She said she found the techniques on the internet, so it would be worth a search.
