I have had a unique experience with a friend in County Kerry, Ireland concerning dreams. His name is Columb. He is an older man, an artist in many facets, whom I have never met face to face. Through the wonders of the internet, we have struck up a rich exchange of ideas and ponderings for nearly two years now. Does this friendship have anything to do with the epic sprawl of my dreams in the same time span? Could be. We began to have conversations about dreams one day. He asked me to share any that I had been having (a few months into our friendship, which was already quite developed), and he was startled to find how my dreams were pinpointing things over there in a land I've never been to. Odd landmarks that only local Kerry dwellers would know of. I've saved all the email exchanges and still smile at how awestruck he was about it. But it wasn't simply scenery I was dreaming of. It was details about him, his life, his experiences that he had not yet shared with me. I would see words written down in my dreams. He said these were the most key clues to hone in on. Words 'spoken' in a dream were important, but if you actually saw something written down... or on an object, it was essential to investigate it. One day I titled a letter to him called "Fata Morgana", where I described a whole dream revolving around that unusual phrase that had been etched on a silver pen. He wrote back with a digital picture included, of a book he had sitting above his computer. On it's spine - the words "Fata Morgana". We had never discussed it's existence before. There were so many details in that dream, it's impossible to list here... but I would gladly go further into it in email if anyone wished. So....moving on. Our experience with dreams have only deepened in these two years. For whatever reason, our two personalities and minds are especially receptive to being 'in touch' via dreams. Perhaps it is the fact that there is so much distance between us, and no plans to ever meet? Are our dreams making the leap for us? It seems to work more strongly in my favor than his. His dreams are detailed, but he 'see's' less of my world, than I do his. This could be because he is an insanely busy person, usually neck deep in television and music production. But during the 'off' times, when he has a couple of months to hole up in his tigin' cottage and focus on things other than producing, the sudden mesh of dreams is undeniable and quite fascinating. He is the only person I have ever experienced this with. Or perhaps I should say, we were simply lucky enough to locate one another. Maybe my elaborate dreams have always had influence from others. But the likelyhood of meeting them is, well... rare. With the creation of the internet, those chances are suddenly heightened. Before, the odds of me trekking off to the wilds of Kerry Ireland, and striking up a conversation with a lion haired man sipping ale in the back of a dark pub were pretty much nil. But now, words gravitate us to like minds on the internet. The fact that we met may or may not have changed the course of my dreams. Maybe I would have dreamed of the words "Fata Morgana" on a silver pen anyway. I simply wouldn't have known how it touched upon this man's life, five thousand miles away. And as for the other dreams I have, that do not concern him? Perhaps they are influenced by others around the world, that I simply haven't met yet. Combine that all with the tapestry of things my mind is processing from my own life, and it is a heady concoction. I would love to go on musing about this subject, but as long winded as I am, this is a topic best pounced upon using different methods................................ as a sidenote, last night I dreamed of a boy with shocking red hair, playing the harmonica, and all his lyrics were written down on a piece of paper that I read while he played........................ ~*~Foxfires~*~ http://www.foxfires.com/blog.html
