Frances, you touch on a subject that really fascinates me, working with a lot of young professionals, college interns and visiting students. Just when I am dispairing that this generation is bombarded with a culture saturated with over the top vulgarity and materialism to excess, kids with attention deficit all over the place, stressed out with over scheduled lives, I get into a conversation with someone who puts it all into perspective for me. There's a lot of thoughtful, spiritually inclined intelligent and ambitious young people out there, who have grown up comfortable enough to not be seduced by material objects (see the Museum at Purgatory), but still manage to enjoy the material things of life; cynical, having access to mountains of contradictory information but still searching for a return to innocence; somewhat intellectually isolated from the older generations because of the breakneck speed of change and information and experience overload that they've taken for granted but still open to discussion and enjoying traditional cultural forms. I have alot of admiration for this bunch who seem to think faster and cut to the chase, not putting up for a minute with mind games and manipulation. There seems to be a honest bunch of smart, energetic mavericks out there, global citizens who are going to change the world just by the way they live their day to day lives.
