Spiny - Thanks! I agree with you about relationships. Yet I think there are a lot of factors that go into it. I can still remember watching Bill Moyer interviewing Sam Keen (author of Fire In The Belly) and seeing Keen empty out his pockets and talk about needing to know what journey you are on before you pick a mate. (His first did not work out when he switched from an academic life of a tenured Ivy League professor to itinerant spiritual seeker and author. And he almost moved too quickly into a second before he realized he did not yet know his own journey, let alone hers. And how can two people get yoked and pull together unless they are both on the same journey and traveling the same road?) It is not just about being in the same place at the same time (as some TV reality programs seem to imply), it is also about having the same intent - even if the methods vary. I think that is why some partnership that have people scratching their heads thrive. Like when opposites (of political parties or religions or whatever) work out because what bonds them is not the method but the underlying cause. In the case above, passion for the political process and the administration of the public good. Or a seeking and following of the wisdom of a higher source - regardless of the name used or the rituals observed. Too often it seems we settle and make do. And then when the lottery comes along, you see people jettisoning their past lives (spouses, jobs, friends, possessions) because they now can afford to. Just look at where most lottery winners are two to five years after they hit pay dirt. Not just back where they started, but worse, because they did not make wise choices with the changes they made. You can tell the smart ones - they blossomed and struck deep roots and keep on growing instead of staking out a pool float for life. (Not that I have anything against pools - some of my best friends swim in them.) Well, so much for keeping this short.
