I love the suggestion of overlapping realities and mismatching perceptions of experience rife in the G&S correspondences. I enjoy performing mentalist magic, and sometimes try to boggle people with this little mindgame story... Three businessmen meet for lunch at a bar. After sandwiches, sodas etc. the barman brings the party's check, the total due being $25. Keen to split the check fairly, each of the three businessmen chips in a $10 bill, totalling $30. The barman brings the $5 change (in $1 bills), and each businessman takes a dollar, leaving a $2 tip. They are about to leave when one of the businessmen says, "Hey, wait a minute, a dollar has disappeared." "How? Where?" ask the other two. "Well, we each handed over a $10 bill, and each of us took $1 in change. That means we each gave $9. Three times $9 is $27, plus $2 for the tip we left makes $29. But we originally handed over $30. Where did the other dollar go?"
