Let me just qualify this by saying that I am not currently, nor have I ever been a critic. Having said that, I also know what I like. During my regular weekend excursion to my favorite used book stores I came across a copy of "Sheldon and Mrs. Levine". I've heard it toted as 'a Griffin and Sabine parody', so how could I refuse? Frankly, I was disappointed. The book is basically a correspondence between a son (Sheldon) and his mother. True, it is done in the same format with post-cards and letters, and true again, the ending leaves questions dangling in the air, but that's where the similarities end. Picture G&S without the mystical art, and wordsmithing. What's left? A somewhat clever idea on how to convey a conversation between two people. However, it's an idea that's been done (and done better) by Nick. There's not a spot of originality between these covers, which is a pity when you look at the authors. Co-author Julie Stein has my dream life of leading archaeological digs. I'm sure this in itself would provide enough fodder for many volumes. Sam Bobrick, the other co-author, is currently working on a comedy called "The Crazy Time". http://www.victoriaplayhousepetrolia.com/CRAZY%20TIME%20PAGE.htm which puts him well on his way to redemption. If I can save just one person, it was not all in vain. Now to cleanse the pallet with "The Tattooed Map" by Barbara Hodgson... Best, Tyson
