It takes courage to set aside past hurts, fears, inhibitions, preconceived notions, and love someone or something totally and unconditionally. The rewards are well worth the risk involved. Once the lesson is learned one can see that all previous events, were merely stepping stones along the path that brought him or her to this opportunity. Once one experiences the courage to love, it is followed by the freedom to love. One's self-imposed imprisonment of the heart and spirit is dissolved and true joy is attained. (Been there, done that, bought the tee-shirt!)
